
CULLMAN, Ala. – The Dripping Springs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) at its recent meeting honored DAR Good Citizens from area high schools.
Each school selected a member of its senior class as a DAR Good Citizen, based on dependability, service, leadership and patriotism as shown by their scholastic achievements, extracurricular activities and community service. Students may also participate in writing an essay on a patriotic topic given to them by the committee.
Students who received DAR Good Citizen awards are:
- Cold Springs High School: Ella Grace Dickerson
- Cullman Christian School: Zoe Allyssa Powell
- Cullman High School: Reese Hopper
- Fairview High School: Aubrey Grace Bailey
- Hanceville High School: Isaac William Graves
- Holly Pond High School: Marissa Christina Williams
- Saint Bernard Preparatory School: Sarah Woods
- Vinemont High School: Maggie Ryan Payne
- West Point High School: Madeline Rae Pinion
The overall Good Citizen chosen by a panel of judges was Maggie Ryan Payne. The overall Essay Winner was Madeline Rae Pinion. Each was awarded $100 by the Dripping Springs chapter.
Each Good Citizen was given a pin and a certificate by Chapter Regent Cathy Shallal. Dr. Nancy Horton, chair of the DAR Good Citizens committee, read excerpts from each of their recommendation letters or essays. The essay winner read her essay. A reception was held after the ceremony for the students and their parents and guests.
