The Cullman Tribune supports open public discussion on issues that affect community safety, criminal justice and accountability. Those conversations matter, and strong emotions are often part of them.

What does not serve the public is the growing use of fake profiles, burner accounts or accounts created in the names of children to launch accusations without evidence.

Hiding behind anonymity to make serious claims undermines credibility, harms innocent people and poisons legitimate discussion.

If an individual is unwilling to stand behind their words using their own identity, those accusations belong in anonymous blogs and private Facebook groups that thrive on speculation, not on verified information.

The Tribune will not serve as a megaphone for unsubstantiated claims posted from false or deceptive accounts.

The Cullman Tribune encourages public discussion on its social media platforms, especially surrounding public safety and criminal justice stories.

We allow a wide range of viewpoints, including grief, anger, fear and disagreement, provided those comments remain lawful and grounded in reality.

Comments that include direct threats, graphic depictions of violence, hate speech or knowingly false accusations may be removed or hidden in accordance with platform rules and newsroom policy.

This moderation exists to protect victims, safeguard due process and maintain a space for meaningful public dialogue, not to silence legitimate concern or criticism.

Accountability applies to everyone, including those who choose to speak online. If you have something to say, say it honestly, responsibly and under your own name.

The Cullman Tribune social media policy

The Cullman Tribune encourages public discussion on its social media platforms, particularly on stories involving public safety, criminal justice and issues that affect our community.

We welcome a wide range of viewpoints, including grief, anger, fear and disagreement. Constructive dialog is an important part of a healthy community, and strong emotions often accompany serious news.

What we do not allow is the use of fake profiles, burner accounts or accounts created in the names of children to post accusations, attacks or unverified claims.

Anonymous or deceptive accounts undermine accountability and contribute to the spread of misinformation.

If an individual is unwilling to stand behind their words using their own identity, those claims do not belong on Tribune platforms.

Comments that include direct threats, graphic depictions of violence, hate speech or knowingly false accusations may be removed or hidden in accordance with platform rules and Tribune newsroom policy.

This moderation is applied evenly and is not based on viewpoint or opinion.

Our goal is not to suppress public sentiment, but to protect victims, respect due process, safeguard individuals from harm and maintain a space for meaningful and responsible discussion.

We ask all users to engage honestly, respectfully and under their own name. Accountability matters, both offline and online.
