CULLMAN, Ala. – As part of Cullman’s annual Oktoberfest celebrations, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will offer a special Gottesdienst (Divine Service) conducted entirely in German on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. The service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 513 Fourth Ave. SE, Cullman, AL, and is open to the public.

The service reflects the city’s strong German Lutheran roots and honors the traditions of the early founders of Cullman. Reverend John Bussman said the event is not a performance or cultural reenactment, but a sincere act of worship grounded in heritage and faith.

“To ‘tradition’ something is to hand it over,” Bussman noted. “That is how the confession of faith has reached our ears today — by being handed down faithfully through generations. This Divine Service is one way we carry that forward.”

English translations will be provided so all attendees, regardless of their background or affiliation, can follow along and participate meaningfully.

Following the service, guests are invited to a time of fellowship in the school gym, where refreshments, including German pastries and coffee, will be served.

St. Paul’s welcomes all — whether you’re a Cullman resident, visitor or simply someone seeking to reflect on spiritual heritage, explore German liturgical tradition or experience something meaningful and unique.
