Obituary: Jonathan Lee Brooks

Jonathan Lee Brooks, age 40, passed away May 28th, 2025, in Cambridge, UK after a brief illness. 

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday June 28th at Cullman Funeral Home Chapel with internment in the Cullman City Cemetery.  Pastor Steve Rodgers officiating.  The family will receive friends from Noon-1pm before the service. 

Jonathan was born July 13, 1984, in Cullman, AL to Wendell Brooks and Rosa Johnson Brooks.  

Survivors include wife, Mika Nicole Brooks, his parents, brother Jason Brooks, half-sister Jessica Brooks, a host of family, friends, and his dogs, Edwin, Viviann, and Betty. 

He was preceded in death by grandparents Ronald and Jo Ann Johnson and Hoyt and Ruth Brooks. 

He graduated from the University of Alabama in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics.  He earned his Master of Arts Degree in International Relations and Contemporary War from King’s College London, UK in 2022. Jonathan received the Sir Lawrence Freedman Award from King’s College London for Best War Studies Dissertation for the 2021/22 Academic Year. 

His career was as a military analyst with the United States Department of Defense from 2011 until the time of his passing. His most recent position being that of Senior Intelligence Analyst Team Lead.  Jonathan was awarded the Joint Civilian Service Commendation Medal from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff after serving with the United States Space Command. During his career, his post locations included Washington DC, Miami, Colorado Springs, and the Royal Air Force base in Molesworth, near Cambridge, UK.  

He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, with some of their favorite places being Japan, Austria, Sweden, and Germany. He also enjoyed learning multiple languages including Japanese, French, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian; and spending time with family, friends, and his beloved dogs.  

He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
