CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce will host its next Lunch & Learn workshop, titled “Credit Education with Listerhill Credit Union” on Tuesday, June 24, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Chamber building. The session will feature a credit education workshop led by financial experts from Listerhill Credit Union. Lunch will be provided to all attendees who register online, courtesy of Listerhill. The workshop is free and open to all Chamber members and their guests.
Led by Listerhill’s Director of Financial Health and Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor Sarah Evans, the session will cover a wide range of topics centered on understanding and improving credit. “The class topics will include an overview of credit scores, what’s in a credit report and checking your credit report. We’ll also cover what affects your credit score, where to start with credit and how to improve and protect your credit,” said Joel Cunnings, LCU’s Cullman branch manager.
Following the instructional portion, guests will have the opportunity to participate in a brief (and free) one-on-one credit review with a Listerhill team member or schedule a follow-up session. Evans will be joined by Cunnings, local consumer lender Alyssa Harlan and mortgage lender Karri Cummings for the interactive portion.
“Many people go through life with little to no understanding of the credit system and how it can affect their life, for better or for worse,” said Cunnings. “We aim to help people raise their understanding of the system to make it start to work for them and to raise their awareness of how their day-to-day choices can help them build a better future. Even a little knowledge can go a long way!”
Listerhill’s involvement in the Cullman area extends beyond the classroom. The Cullman branch is an active member of the Cullman Chamber of Commerce and United Way of Cullman County’s Business Alliance. In the past year, the credit union has supported a wide range of local causes, including events for Les Dames of Cullman and Victim Services of Cullman and served as the title sponsor of UWCC’s Dolly Parton Imagination Library Launch in Winston County.
“At Listerhill, we say, ‘It’s all about we.’ We exist to serve. Listerhill’s mission and vision are an extension of our founding. We are a financial cooperative whose primary purpose was, and still is, to help our members live a healthy financial life and to offer an alternative to traditional profit-driven banks and lenders,” Cunnings shared.
“We love our communities. Our lives and our part within our towns and cities, schools and businesses extend far beyond the service of our members. We are in it for everyone. As our community grows and thrives, so do we. We are altruistic, not for business reasons, but because we care,” he added.
