A graveside service for Johnny Cockrell, 71, of Cullman, AL will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at Cullman City Cemetery
Born on Thursday, November 19, 1953 in Greenville, Texas, Johnny Cockrell was a man who lived for the simple joys in life. He died on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at his residence in Cullman, Alabama surrounded by his family. He was a lover of old music, classic rock, and the kind of peaceful moments only found around a crackling fire or on the calm waters of the lake.
In his younger years, Johnny found great joy in fishing, spending countless hours casting lines and sharing stories. As time went on, he developed a deep love for camping, grilling, and the laid-back rhythm of lake life. His quick wit and sharp mind made him the most dreaded opponent in any trivia game—he never turned down a chance to test his knowledge or share a fun fact.
Survivors include his sons, Jeremy (Janet) Cockrell and Destin Cockrell; his beloved grandchildren, Grace, Eli, and Kaleb Cockrell. He also leaves behind his loving sisters, Rose (David) Collum and Vestavia (Rodney) Johnston; along with a host of nieces and nephews who will remember his humor, warmth, and wisdom.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Spencer Cockrell (Gwen), and his parents, William Artis and Jimmie Cooper-Cockrell.
Johnny will be remembered not just for the life he lived, but for the love he gave and the memories he helped create. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Hanceville Funeral Home is honored to serve the Cockrell Family.
