FAIRVIEW, Ala. — God has played a major role in Fairview senior Elleigh Henry’s life and in this interview, she talked about her journey with her faith, starting with the decision to get baptized on March 16.
“He means everything to me, especially now that I got saved. I truly understand how much He forgives and loves us through it all. It was the best feeling ever. An immediate relief and burden was lifted off my shoulders. He has changed my life so much. He truly has shown me how to be a better person and just reading my Bible or praying throughout the day has made a huge difference. He has given me peace and comfort in Him like I’ve never experienced before,” Elleigh said. “I got baptized on March 16th, and I was surrounded with the best group of friends who never fail to show up and be there for me. That is so important who you put yourself around. They can make a huge impact on you and your decisions. I want to tell people my age or younger than me: don’t make the mistake of surrounding yourself with people that lead you further away from Christ. Surround yourself with people that uplift you and have the same image of Christ and goals as you. I have been there where I was living worldly and not putting God first. That’s why it is so important that the people that you are around play a huge part in your walk with Christ, and they’ll help you grow to be the best Christian you can be. God is so good and forgiving, so never think you’re straying too far away. You are never too lost for God to save you.”
It’s really important for Elleigh to help people of all ages find God and be a role model for younger kids. She has helped out with a couple of things in the missionary field and plans to do even more after she graduates. She also talked about a life-changing experience that helped her get even closer to God.
“That is one of the most important things to me. Going to heaven is one of the biggest blessings that we will receive. I always want to be someone they look up to and show them how to walk in Christ,” she said. “I helped Vacation Bible School and worked at the food drive a couple of years ago. Recently, I was in a wreck, and although it wasn’t very bad, it could have been. This made me realize how quickly life can change. I am very thankful for God’s hand covering me that day. It was probably one of the scariest things I have ever experienced.”
Elleigh gave some advice to those people who might be either struggling or are new when it comes to having a relationship with God.
“Pray and pray some more. Read your Bible and really get into God’s word. He always has an answer, and don’t be afraid to ask questions,” she said. “What I’ve learned the most during my journey so far is to trust God through it all.”
