BAILEYTON, Ala. – The Baileyton Town Council meeting was called to order by Mayor Windell Calloway and opened with an invocation by Councilman Dewayne Sumner on Monday, May 5, 2025.
The first resident to receive special recognition from the mayor and town council was Paxton Plourd. Plourd is a student at Parkside School and represented his school in the Elks National Hoop Shoot. After competing against athletes across the nation in Chicago on April 26, he brought home the gold in the 8/9-year-old boys’ division. Plourd made 25/25 free throws – a perfect score.
Mayor Calloway recognized Plourd with a plaque on behalf of the Town, stating, “This is a national champion. The only one we’ve ever had!”
In other business, the council discussed the Local Government Health Insurance Program. Discussion covered what benefits and costs would be available to Town employees. Sumner asked that the matter be tabled until further research could be conducted and Councilman Benny Guthrie requested the Town’s lawyer be given all gathered information to advise the council on the best course of action for both the Town and individuals.
Upcoming town events:
- May will see two Bargain Days events: May 3 and May 17
- Latham Horse Show set for July 18-19, 2025
- Tree trimming and moving along town roadways is expected to occur throughout the month
The next town council meeting date will be Monday, June 2, at 7 p.m. at Baileyton Town Hall, located at 95 Fire Station Road.
