HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Wallace State Community College is hosting a series of summer STEAM camps from June 9-13 for students entering grades 3-12. The camps offer hands-on experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM), encouraging students to explore these subjects through engaging experiments and real-world challenges.
This year’s program allows campers to step into the shoes of real scientists and engineers. Students will explore areas like robotics, 3D printing, coding, environmental science and health science through project-based challenges. From designing and testing prototypes to solving real-world problems and team-based competitions, the camps aim to foster creativity and critical thinking.
In previous years, campers have designed and built projects like functional roller coasters, solar-powered vehicles and programmed robots, as well as investigative activities such as solving staged crime scenes using forensic techniques. These hands-on experiences help students link STEAM skills to real-world uses and potential career paths.
“STEAM Camp is an incredible opportunity for students who love to explore, create and be challenged,” said Aubry Lovell, coordinator for the North Alabama STEM Ecosystem. “It’s not just about learning science or math — it’s about discovering how those subjects come to life in the real world. For kids who are curious and hands-on, this is where they get to dig in, take risks and start thinking like future scientists, engineers and innovators.”
The 2025 STEAM camp schedule includes:
- Two-Day Elementary School STEAM summer camp (Grades 3-5): June 9-10
- Two-Day Middle School STEAM summer camp (Grades 6-8): June 11-12
- One-Day High School STEAM career exploration camp (Grades 9-12): June 13
All sessions run from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and the registration fee is $40. Space is limited to 75 students across all grade levels.
