CULLMAN, Ala. – A local man, who was found guilty by a Cullman County jury on Thursday, April 3, 2025, of second-degree escape, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the crime.
Anthony Ray Beasley, 53, of Cullman, was indicted on the escape charge back in September 2020. The charge stemmed from his escape from the Cullman County Detention Center on Oct. 17, 2019.
Cullman County District Attorney Champ Crocker, who said Beasley is a three-time convicted felon, said, “I hope this sentence sends a loud message to those who would escape or attempt to escape jail. This is a matter of public safety for our detention deputies, jail staff and the community in general. I appreciate Sheriff Matt Gentry and his deputies who helped us make this case.”
Cullman County Circuit Judge Emily Niezer Johnston presided over the trial and sentencing. Beasley was represented by attorney Melvin Hasting.
