
PHIL CAMPBELL, Ala. – Vinemont took down Randolph County at home in round one and the Eagles’ postseason campaign continued with a round two matchup at Phil Campbell on Saturday. Vinemont dominated game one, defeating the Bobcats 12-2 to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Phil Campbell led 3-1 early in game two but the Eagles scored four runs in the fourth to pull ahead. However, the Bobcats put three runs on the board in the fifth and sixth innings to move ahead for good and secure a 9-5 win. The Eagles will head back to Phil Campbell for game three on Monday.
Vinemont 12 – Phil Campbell 2 (Game One)
The Eagles took control of game one early. Kayden Henderson lined a double to left field to score Travis Speer and give Vinemont a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Eagles erupted in the second inning. A 2-run single from Jake Hale made it a 3-0 game and Josh Rhodes followed with another RBI single to stretch the lead to 4-0. Later in the inning, back to back singles from Hayden Robinson and Rylan McRae drove in two more runs to make it 6-0. Rush Sandlin kept things going with a 2-run double to left field that put the Eagles ahead 8-0. With the bases loaded, Chad Reynolds capped the big inning with a bases-clearing double, giving Vinemont a commanding, 11-0 lead going into the third.
Phil Campbell scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to trim the lead to 11-2. After a pair of scoreless innings, the Eagles added to their lead in the top of the sixth when McRae lined an RBI single to left field, plating Henderson and making it a 12-2 game.
That was all the offense Vinemont needed to seal the win, collecting the final three outs in the bottom of the sixth to take game on 12-2.
Reynolds (one hit) led the Eagles with three RBIs in the win and Sandlin, McRae and Hale each posted two hits and RBIs as well.
Phil Campbell 9 – Vinemont 5 (Game Two)
An RBI single from Kayden Henderson put Vinemont in front 1-0 in the bottom of the first but Phil Campbell was able to score and tie the game at 1 in the top of the second. The Bobcats tacked on two more runs in the top of the third to move ahead 3-1 going into the fourth inning.
The Eagles got the bats going in the bottom of the fourth. Back to back singles from Tucker Mauter and Chad Reynolds gave Vinemont a pair of runners and Jake Hale knocked a double into right field to drive in Mauter and cut the lead to 3-2. Two pitches later, Josh Rhodes sent a double into left field to plate Reynolds and tie the game at 3. Owen McKinney kept the inning going with an RBI single that put the Eagles in front 4-3 and an RBI double from Henderson made it 5-3 going into the fifth.
The Bobcats answered in the next two innings, scoring three runs in the fifth to take a 6-5 lead and plating three more in the sixth to make it a 9-5 game. Vinemont was unable to cut into the lead in the sixth and was kept off the board in the seventh, allowing Phil Campbell to take game two and force a tiebreaker.
Henderson posted three hits and two RBIs in the loss. Hale (one RBI), McKinney (one RBI) and Reynolds each added a pair of hits as well.
