Cullman City Council April 7 notes: Tax abatement, clean financial audit, Rock the South permit tabled

CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City Council on Monday approved a slate of upcoming special events, while tabling a request from Michael McBrayer for the annual Rock the South music festival at York Family Farms in July. According to Council President Jenny Folsom, public safety staff have not yet completed and submitted their final reports. The council did not point to any issue between the City and RTS, treating the matter as routine.

The council did approve:

  • A special event request from Leldon Maxcy to hold the annual Warehouse District Street Sale April 10-11, 2025
  • A special event request from Christy Turner of Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism to hold the annual Alabama Strawberry Festival in the Special Events District April 25-26, 2025
  • A special event request from Christy Turner of Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism to hold the annual Dinner on First in the Warehouse District on May 17, 2025

Clean City audit

The council approved a resolution accepting the City’s 2024 financial audit. Folsom declared the audit clean, and thanked Mayor Woody Jacobs and a team of city hall staffers for their efforts in carrying out the audit.

Tax abatement for “Project Box”

The council also approved a tax abatement for an undisclosed company under the title of “Project Box.” According to Folsom, the company plans to expand existing operations in the city with a $47 million capital investment.

The council also approved resolutions to:

  • Enter into agreement with ALDOT to maintain a sidewalk on the 2000 block of Cherokee Avenue/Alabama Highway 69
  • To surplus inventory not needed by the City for public or municipal purposes, and offer it for sale through govdeals.com

Mayor Jacobs announced that the City will proclaim April as “Fair Housing Month,” saying that City Hall will soon issue a formal proclamation.

The Cullman City Council meets next at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025, in the city hall auditorium. The public is invited to attend.
