Good Hope Council gives notice of municipal election, approves wastewater treatment plant equipment upgrade

GOOD HOPE, Ala. – Good Hope’s City Council held its first February meeting at Good Hope City Hall Monday night and in addition to passing a pair of new resolutions, the council gave public notice of this year’s upcoming municipal election.

Ordinance No: 005-2025

“An ordinance providing for the election of municipal officers

Section 1. Pursuant to 11-46-21 of the Code of Alabama (1975), a municipal election shall be on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and City Council Place Numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Section 2. All registered and qualified electors of the state who reside within the corporate limits of the City of Good Hope, Alabama and have resided therein for thirty (30) days or more immediately preceding the date of such election and who are qualified to vote in the county precinct which embraces and covers that part of the corporate limits of the City of Good Hope in which the elector resides, will be authorized to participate in said election.

Section 3. That the polls shall be opened on the day of said election from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the voting places in the City of Good Hope, Alabama, designated as follows to wit:

Location of voting place: City Clerk’s Office, Municipal Building. 135 Municipal Drive, Cullman, AL 35057.

Section 5. Candidates may begin qualifying for office on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. The last day on which a candidate may qualify by filing a statement of candidacy with the City Clerk shall be Tuesday, June 24, 2025 by 5:00 p.m.

The council also approved a change order for a modification to its contract regarding the Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion project. The change is for an equipment upgrade, described as an “Addition of post EQ effluent pumps, controls, piping and deletion of post EQ control valve.” At the cost of $22,671.25.

For the use of electronic vote counting devices

“Now therefore, be it resolved, by the City Council of the City of Good Hope that for all election held subsequent to the passage of this resolution, the use of DS200 Voting Machine Tabulator and Express Vote Machine, a system which complies with Section 17-7-21 of the Code of Alabama and any regulations adopted pursuant thereto, is hereby authorized for the reporting, counting, and tabulating of any and all election results.”

Professional services from Waggoner Engineering for bid phase on Multi-Use Storm Shelter project

“Whereas, the City of Good Hope is seeking professional services for the bid phase of the Multi-Use Storm Shelter/Community Center.

Therefore, in accordance with federal procurement guidelines the City of Good Hope intends to go into Professional Service Agreement for services related to the bid process for the Multi-Use Storm Shelter Community Center;

Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the city council of the City of Good Hope states that Jerry Bartlett, Mayor, is hereby authorized to execute the contract documents related to this project for the amount of $5,000.”

The Good Hope City Council will hold its next meeting at Good Hope City Hall on Monday, Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m.
