
GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The defending 4A state champion Lady Raiders were back home to continue their postseason run with a Sub-Regional matchup against Wilson Friday night and Good Hope dominated from start to finish to punch its ticket to next week’s Northwest Regional at Wallace State.
Baskets by Jolee McHan and Sophie Konrad gave the Lady Raiders a 4-0 start and Ella Gossett knocked down a three to keep Good Hope in front 7-3 later in the first quarter. Gossett but a pair of free throws to make it 9-3 and Konrad drained another three to extend the lead to 12-3. Ava McSwain followed with a three of her own to make it 15-3 and Konrad’s second three-pointer of the opening period gave Good Hope an 18-8 lead with three minutes remaining in the first. Lucie Adams drilled a three to make it a 21-8 game and Konrad split a pair of free throws in the final moments of the first quarter to keep the Lady Raiders ahead 22-14 at the start of the second.
A pair of Gossett free throws and basket from McSwain put Good Hope ahead 26-14 early in the second quarter. Konrad laid one in to make it 28-14 and Gossett and McSwain each split a pair of free throws to maintain a 30-16 lead with three minutes remaining in the period. Free throws from Gossett, Konrad and Lexi Collins helped build a 39-17 with less than a minute to play in the first half and Gossett buried a three at the buzzer to give the Lady Raiders a commanding, 42-17 lead at the break.
Konrad scored the first five points of the third quarter to extend Good Hope’s lead to 47-17. McSwain drained a three to make it 50-19 later in the period and free throws from Lexi Marshall and McHan kept the Lady Raiders in front 53-21. Six more points from Konrad and a three-pointer by Adams stretched the lead to 62-28 with just over a minute remaining in the quarter and after McSwain knocked down another three, Adams sank a free throw in the final seconds of the third to make it a 66-30 game going into the fourth.
Marshall and Collins each scored inside to give Good Hope a 40-point lead early in the fourth quarter and with the clock running, the Lady Raiders cruised into the Sweet 16 with a 71-41 win over Wilson.
Konrad led Good Hope with 26 points in the win. Gossett posted 14 and McSwain added 12.
The Lady Raiders will be back on the court at Wallace State Wednesday at 3 p.m. to play either Dora or Haleyville in the Northwest Regional.
