Rex Johnny Wood Jr. was born October 11, 1929 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Viola Harris Wood, his father, Rex Johnny Wood Sr., and a granddaughter, Sarah Wood.
Rex is survived by his wife, Betty Jean (English) Wood of 71 years.
Survivors include a sister, Marguerite Wilson, sons, Rex Johnny Wood III (Deborah), Luther Thomas Wood (Linda), daughters Deborah (Wood) Cummings, Cheryl Ann (Wood) Fellague-Chebra (Kamel). Grandchildren, Ashley (Wood) Edwards (Andrew), Cody Cummings (Lisa), Christopher Wood, and Carson Cummings (Katherine). Great grandchildren, Trenton Wood, Ethan Edwards, Cooper Wood, Kopis Cummings, Kal Cummings and Ryan Cummings.
Rex attended Clemson University, served in the United States Air Force, and graduated from Presbyterian College. He was a member of the Cullman First United Methodist Church and taught the Bob Sapp and Wesley Fellowship Sunday School class for over 35 years. Rex was a retired accountant, was a talented painter and enjoyed fishing in his spare time. Rex will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle.
A public memorial is planned for Saturday, February 8 at 2 p.m. at Vinemont Church of God with a private interment after for the family at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation at Macular.org.
