CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Regional Airport will host the annual Cullman County Veterans Day Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., offering a day filled with activities to honor local veterans. The event is free to the public and includes free parking. Veterans and their spouses can enjoy free coffee and donuts in the terminal from 8-10 a.m., followed by a complimentary lunch provided by the Cullman Elks Lodge. Food vendors will also be on-site to serve the general public.

The celebration will kick off with an opening ceremony at 10, featuring the JROTC and Army National Guard. Throughout the day, attendees can explore military aircraft and vehicles, including tours of a WWII U.S. Navy PBY and a P-40 Fighter, famously flown by the Tuskegee Airmen and Pappy Boyington. WWII re-enactors and the Cullman Historical Society will be present to introduce visitors to veterans who served the country.

A 1930s- and 1940s-era classic car show will be a highlight for vehicle enthusiasts, with participants asked to have their cars in position by 8 and to remain in place until 3. For those interested in participating in the car show, contact Jeff Harris at 256-338-8753.

For thrill-seekers, rides in the T-6 Texan, a WWII pilot training aircraft, will be available for $395, with pre-booking required. Those interested in booking their ride can contact the Commemorative Air Force at www.airbasegeorgia.org. There will also be an air demonstration by the Air Demonstration Team just before noon, and after lunch, attendees can witness a KC-135 tanker flyover by the Alabama Air National Guard, followed by a skydiving demonstration by Skydive Alabama to honor veterans and their families.

Additionally, a Huey helicopter from the Vietnam era will be on display, offering kids the opportunity to sit in the cockpit and meet the pilots who flew it. Huey helicopter rides will also be available for $75. Tickets are available online until Oct. 30 at www.friendsofarmyaviation.org/foaa-event/cullman-veterans-ride-event-2024.
