BREMEN, Ala. – The Cold Springs Eagles were back home for a critical region game against Southeastern Friday night and made a late push in the second half to try and claim the lead but couldn’t come back from the early deficit and fell to the Mustangs 20-14.

Southeastern took a 7-0 lead less than a minute into the first quarter and found the end zone again as the quarter expired to take a 13-0 lead into the second. A touchdown run by Tycen Kilgo trimmed the lead to 13-6 midway through the second quarter, but the Mustangs responded immediately, scoring just a couple plays later to stretch their lead out to 20-6 going into the halftime break.

After a scoreless third quarter, Cason Alexander scored on a rushing touchdown and Matt Willaims punched in the two-point conversion to cut the lead to 20-14 with just over nine minutes remaining. Southeastern drove deep into Cold Springs territory before settling for a short field goal but the kick was blocked by the Eagles, holding the lead to just six with five minutes to play. However, Cold Springs was unable to get any more points on the board and the Mustangs were able to hold on and escape with a 20-14 win.

The Eagles drop to 4-5 with the loss and they’ll be back home next week to finish their regular season against Falkville.
