VINEMONT, Ala. – The Vinemont Town Council came together Oct. 15, for its monthly meeting. The meeting was originally slated for Oct. 8, but the council could not establish a quorum.

Councilman Chris Thompson submitted his letter of resignation, citing his need to focus his energy and passion into his own businesses.

Part of his written statement read, “After a lot of thought and soul searching, I have come to the conclusion that the best thing for me at this time would be to submit my resignation for my position of Town Councilman place #1 for the Town of South Vinemont. It is time for me to put my passion, creativity, and energy towards my businesses. It has been a great honor to have had the opportunity to serve as Council member and assist with the growth of Vinemont.”

The meeting touched on many of the town’s upcoming events, approval of a new mural on the community storm shelter and payment of the Town’s Alabama Municipal Insurance Corporation bill.

The council approved payment for the mural on the exterior of the community storm shelter in the amount of $1,000. Local artist Jack Tupper will complete the mural.

The council also approved the payment of its AMIC bill, in the amount of $28,463.

Upcoming events include:

  • The monthly senior citizens’ lunch will be held at the Vinemont Community Center on Oct. 21 from 10 a.m.-1p.m. The council will provide a hot lunch and entertainment. The council asks attendees bring a dessert, if able.
