CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Bearcats returned home to Oliver Woodard Stadium for a cool, windy matchup against Brewer Friday night and the ‘Cats bounced back from last week’s loss with a dominant, 35-0 performance against the Patriots.

Dylan Pozos recovered a Brewer fumble to give the ball back to Cullman’s offense near midfield late in the first quarter. With the game still scoreless later in the opening period, the Patriots began driving into Bearcat territory, but a backwards pass was dropped and recovered by Cullman’s Mack Dumas to end the Brewer possession.

An interception by Jaxon Stallings ended another Patriot drive midway through the second quarter and with just over two minutes remaining in the first half, another fumble was recovered by Tucker Perry to give the Bearcats great field position once again. This time Cullman’s offense was able to capitalize, taking its first lead of the night with four seconds on the clock when quarterback Preston Gay hit Cooper Ogstad over the middle for a 10-yard touchdown. JD Ellerbee knocked the extra point through the uprights and the Bearcats went into the locker room with a 7-0 lead.

Cullman dominated the second half and started by forcing Brewer to punt on its opening possession of the third quarter. Just a few plays later, Cooper Loftin took a handoff 49 yards down the near sideline for a touchdown to put the ‘Cats on top 14-0 early in the third. Stallings’ second interception of the night gave the ball back to Cullman on the Patriots 20-yard line and Stevie Prologo capped a scoring drive with a 2-yard touchdown run to make it a 21-0 game.

The takeaways kept coming for the Bearcat defense as Chance Hausler pulled down another interception to set up the black and gold offense near midfield. Cullman put together another scoring drive, capping it with a 2-yard touchdown run from Loftin to extend the lead to 28-0 late in the third quarter.

The Bearcats and Patriots exchanged punts to end the third quarter and begin the fourth but with around seven minutes remaining, Weston Keel ran one into the end zone from 17 yards out to put the finishing touches on a 35-0 win for Cullman.

Gay completed 12 of his 21 pass attempts for 83 yards and a touchdown in the win. Loftin led the way on the ground with 88 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 10 carries. Rex Chandler added 69 yards on 13 carries and Ogstad posted 37 yards and a touchdown on four catches.

The Bearcats improve to 3-3 with the win and they’ll be back home next week to host their rivals from Hartselle.
