VINEMONT, Ala. – The Vinemont Eagles kicked off their season at home against Falkville Friday night and thanks in large part to a great effort from the offensive line and their defense, the Eagles are off to a 1-0 start.

Vinemont forced a punt on its opening defensive possession thanks to a big sack from Rush Sandlin, but the Eagles offense was unable to capitalize on the momentum. The defense forced a three and out after Tucker Robinson came away with a sack on second and short. This time the Eagles offense marched down the field to take an 8-0 lead early in the second quarter when Josh Rhodes scored from 1 yard out.

Vinemont forced another punt on the ensuing possession but gave the ball back to Falkville with a short field and four plays later, Falkville was able to cut the lead to 8-6 midway through the first half.

Vinemont received the ball to start the second half and the Eagles pounded it down the field. However, an incomplete pass on the fourth and goal gave the ball back to the Blue Devils. Once again Vinemont’s defense kept Falkville from getting anything going offensively.

On the first play of the fourth quarter Chad Reynolds scored from 4 yards out to extend the Eagles’ lead to 16-6. Falkville responded quickly, returning the ensuing kick-off to make the score 16-14 with 11:34 remaining in the game.

Vinemont picked up two first downs but fumbled the ball away. Vinemont’s defense stepped up once again to force a punt and Falkvillle didn’t see the ball again. Vinemont’s offensive line and running game put the game away and secured a 16-14 win for the Eagles.

Vinemont’s defense allowed just 87 yards in the win while Vinemont’s offense racked up 262 yards on the ground.

The Eagles will be on the road next week to take on Southeastern.
