CULLMAN, Ala. – The Friends of the Public Libraries of Cullman County (FPLCC) will host the Storybook Sprint 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run Saturday, April 27, at 8 a.m. This unique, family friendly event promises outdoor fitness and to bring books to life. The group invites participants of all ages to run, walk and celebrate the joy of reading. 

The Storybook 5K and 1-MileFun Run is not just a race; it’s an opportunity to bring beloved storybook characters to life, encouraging creativity and imagination among participants. Runners and walkers are encouraged to dress up as their favorite characters from literature, whether it’s a classic fairytale hero or a modern-day superhero from a graphic novel. The event aims to foster a love for reading while promoting an active lifestyle in the scenic surroundings of Cullman County.


“We are thrilled to host the Storybook 5K and Fun Run, combining the magic of storytelling with the energy of outdoor activity,” said Julie Freeman, president of the FPLCC. “We want this event to show our commitment to promoting literacy and community engagement. It’s a fantastic opportunity for families, avid readers and fitness enthusiasts to come together for a fun-filled day.”

The Storybook 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run will start and end at the Cullman County Public Library in downtown Cullman. Registration for the event is now open and can be completed online at https://givebutter.com/2qBuZG. All proceeds will support FPLCC initiatives and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
