CULLMAN, Ala. – The Lady Bearcats were back home to take on Jasper Thursday night and the game was tied at 1 run apiece in the top of the fourth but Cullman plated four runs in the bottom half of the fourth and six more in the fifth to wrap up an 11-1 win over the Vikings. Brie Voss earned the win after tossing all five innings and allowing just one run on two hits.

Abby Maples singled in the bottom of the first to give the ‘Cats a baserunner and Taylor Au laced a single into left field later in the inning to drive in Maples and give Cullman a 1-0 lead. After a pair of scoreless innings, Jaspers tied things up with a solo homerun in the top of the fourth.

However, the Bearcats responded in their half of the inning, starting with a 2-run homerun off the bat of Reese Hopper that put Cullman back in front 3-1. Voss doubled down the left field line and Kylie Stracener singled up the middle to put a couple more runners on base for Maples. Maples swung at the first pitch she saw and knocked a 2-run double into center field to stretch the lead to 5-1 going into the fifth.

Voss retired the Vikings in order in the top of the fifth to send the ‘Cats back to the plate and they decided to wrap things up early in the bottom half of the inning. Hattie Graham doubled, Hopper singled and Samantha Johnson drew a walk to load the bases. A few pitches later, Stracener ripped a single into left field to drive in Graham and make it 6-1. Maples drove in two more runs with a single up the middle and Kynlei Storey punched an RBI single into right field to put Cullman on top 10-1. The Bearcats loaded the bases again and Graham was hit by a pitch to bring in the final run and secure an 11-1 win for Cullman.

Maples led the way for the ‘Cats at the plate with three hits and four RBIs. Hopper (HR) was not far behind with three hits of her own and a pair of RBIs. Storey (one hit) drove in a pair of RBIs and Stracener (two hits), Au (two hits) and Graham (two hits) each posted an RBI as well.

Cullman will be on the road Friday to face Albertville.
