ALBERTVILLE, Ala. — The Warriors traveled to the Sand Mountain Sports Complex in Albertville this weekend to compete in the Lake City Cup and they returned home with a pair of wins.

West Point defeated Cleburne County 7-0 in its first match. Omar segundo posted two goals and an assist, Josh shannon had a pair of assists and Julio Fuentes added an assist. Nathan Marta had one assist and Chance Aldridge broke the school record for most goals in a game with five.

The Warriors faced a tougher test when they played Arab in their second match. The Knights defeated West Point 4-1 a season ago but the Warriors responded with a 2-0 win this time around. Segundo recorded a goal and an assist in the win and Hayden Hogan added a goal as well.

West Point then played 5A powerhouse Douglas. The Warriors were able to hold the Eagles to a 1-0 lead in the first half but failed to get on the board in the second half. Douglas scored two more times in the second half to pull away with a 3-0 win over West Point.

This is the first time West Point has ever made it to a final in a soccer tournament and Head Coach Jacob Brown was proud of the way his team performed against some good competition.

“Really proud of the boys. If there’s one thing this team will do, it’s leave it all out in the field and they definitely did that.” Brown said. “No one will ever outwork us on the field. It was a great game to prepare for our harder section matches coming up.”

The Warriors will travel to Danville Thursday.
