PREP SOFTBALL: Lady Raiders rout Fairview 16-1, Monday scoring recap

GOOD HOPE, Ala. — Good Hope struck first and in a big way in their opening at-bats. Lexi Steed reached on a Fairview error to lead off the inning, then Campbell Koch hit an RBI double to left field to put the Lady Raiders on the scoreboard first. After another Lady Aggie error, Carley Adams hit an RBI single to make it 2-0. Adams and Haley Lay scored on another Fairview error to give them a 4-0 lead. Later on, Addyson Burgess hit a two-run home run, and Kynzlee Garmon added an RBI groundout to make it 7-0.

Good Hope added three more runs in the bottom of the second. Bryleigh Basinger hit an RBI single, and Natalie Miller scored on a Lady Aggie error to make it 9-0. The Lady Raiders added another run to give them a commanding 10-0 lead. An RBI double by Fairview’s Addison Phillips cut it to 10-1 in the top of the third. The Lady Raiders batted around in their half, sending 11 batters to the plate, and scoring six runs. Lay hit an RBI groundout, Adams added an RBI single, Burgess hit a two-run groundout, Basinger collected an RBI single, and Koch got hit by the pitch to put the final score at 16-1.

Burgess finished with a hit and four RBIs for Good Hope. Adams added three hits and two RBIs. Basinger finished with a pair of hits and two RBIs. Koch posted a hit and two RBIs. Miller added a pair of RBIs. Garmon collected a hit and an RBI, while Lay finished with an RBI in the win for the Lady Raiders. For Fairview, Phillips finished with a hit and an RBI, while Ayda Payne and Ralie Gaines each added a hit in the loss for the Lady Aggies.

Cold Springs 11 – Falkville 4 (Baseball)

Falkville struck first in their opening at-bats, as a two-out RBI double gave them the early lead. Cold Springs countered in their half. Josh Winfrey got hit by the pitch with one out. After he stole second, Boston Archer reached on an infield single, putting runners at the corners, and they later scored to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. Cold Springs quickly broke the game wide open in the bottom of the third.

A single, a sacrifice bunt, and another single put runners at the corners with one out. Later on, Winfrey crossed the plate to make it 3-1, then an RBI groundout by Mason Gable made it 4-1. After a hit by pitch, a Blue Devil error allowed Kaiden Graves and Matt Williams to score to push their lead to 6-1. Lindan Hill lined an RBI double to left field, and Cole Bale followed that up with an RBI triple to make it 8-1.

An RBI fielder’s choice, a passed ball, and an Eagle error in the top of the fifth allowed Falkville to cut the deficit to four at 8-4, but Cold Springs added a run in their half as Gable scored on a wild pitch. The Eagles put up their final two runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth, as Winfrey and Archer each scored on a pair of Falkville errors, to help seal the 11-4 win for Cold Springs.

Gable finished with a pair of RBIs in the game for Cold Springs. Hill (two hits) and Bales (one hit) each added an RBI as well. Bales allowed five hits and three earned runs, walked three, and struck out nine for the Eagles in the win.

Homewood 6 – Cullman 2 (Baseball)

A two-run home run from Homewood in its opening at-bats gave them the early lead, then a two-out, two-run double, followed by an RBI double, made it a 5-0 game in the top of the fifth. Cullman got on the scoreboard in their half. Case Stancil hit a leadoff single, then Wil McCollum got hit by the pitch. Two outs later, Jonah Inman hit a two-run single to center field to cut it to 5-2. The Patriots added a run in the top of the sixth on a passed ball to make it 6-2. The Bearcats wasn’t able to cut into the deficit after that, as they ended up falling to Homewood 6-2.

Inman finished with a hit and two RBIs for Cullman. Tanner Gaines added a pair of hits, while Bennett Johnson, Stancil, and Wyatt Buchanan each collected a hit as well in the loss for the Bearcats.

Vinemont 13 – East Lawrence 3 (Baseball)

Vinemont quickly got things going offensively in their opening at-bats. An error, a single, and another error loaded the bases with two outs. Another East Lawrence error allowed Jake Hale and Josh Rhodes to score to give Vinemont the early lead. Rush Sandlin added an RBI single to make it 3-0. East Lawrence hit an RBI single in the top of the second to cut it to 3-1, but Vinemont got that run back in their half on an RBI groundout by Hale. Vinemont broke the game wide open in the bottom of the third.

Holcomb reached on an infield single to lead off the inning, then after stealing second and third, scored on an East Lawrence error to make it a 5-1 game. Three walks loaded the bases with one out. Kayden Henderson drew a walk, which allowed Owen Mckinney to score, and an RBI fielder’s choice by Michael Foust pushed the Vinemont lead to 7-1. Hale added a two-run single to give Vinemont a 9-1 lead. Mckinney hit an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth and later scored on a wild pitch to make it an 11-1 game. Henderson added an RBI single to increase their lead to 12-1.

A sacrifice fly and an RBI single by East Lawrence in the top of the fifth cut it to 12-3, but Vinemont ended the game in their half of the inning. Rhodes drew a leadoff walk and later scored on an RBI single by Jaxon Holcomb to give Vinemont the 13-3 win at home against East Lawrence.

Hale led the way for Vinemont with a hit and three RBIs. Henderson added a hit and two RBIs. Foust, Holcomb and Sandlin each finished with a pair of hits and an RBI, while Mckinney collected a hit and an RBI in the win for Vinemont.

Lawrence County 17 – West Point 1 (Softball)

It was all Lawrence County in this game, as they put up three runs in the first inning, six more in the second, and eight more in the third. They ended up rolling past West Point 17-1.

Phillips finished with the only RBI in the game for the Lady Warriors in the loss, while Katie Beth Yovino collected their only hit in the contest.
