HANCEVILLE, Ala. – On Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, 91 Short Track in Hanceville will be kicking off its inaugural season with its first-ever Icebreaker Race.

91 Short Track is a dirt short track expressly for go-kart racing. Owner Justin Morgan broke ground on the backyard track in summer 2023 and held 91 Short Track’s first official race this past fall.

“It started off as a backyard track for my husband and son to practice on,” said Morgan’s wife, Monica Morgan. “It’s now turned into a pretty big deal.” She noted that go-kart enthusiasts travel from all across the Southeast, including Tennessee, Mississippi and Georgia, to come spin some tires and go for gold.

The Morgans said they are pumped to offer their first official season with 91 Short Track and hope to attract drivers of all ages and levels with different competitive classes; with cold hard cash on the line, drivers will want to bring their A-Game to make it to victory lane and have a chance to drive in the track championship race scheduled for the end of season.

Drivers can sign up on race day as they enter, with each class having differing registration fees. Gates will open at 9:30 a.m. with practice laps for the racers beginning at  9:30 followed by a driver’s meeting at 12:15 p.m. Drivers must be present and signed in by noon to race.

General admission for the audience is $5 and the Morgans recommend bringing your own chair for seating.

91 Short Track is located at 23451 Alabama Highway 91 in Hanceville, with a parking entrance located the next driveway down. There will be signs and workers present to assist with parking.
