HANCEVILLE, Ala. – West Point and Holly Pond met in the opening round of the JV Boys tournament Tuesday night and the Warriors dominated from start to finish. West Point took a commanding, 32-8 lead into the locker room at halftime and continued to pour it on in the second half, punching its ticket to Friday night’s semifinals with a 58-13 win over the Broncos.

The Warriors took control of this game right out of the gate. Teagan Heaton laid one in to give West Point a 2-0 start and after Landon Lovell answered with a three on the other end to put Holly Pond in front 3-2, it was all Warriors for the rest of the first quarter. Baskets by Asa Sutter and JJ Minck, along with a three-pointer from Sawyer Harris, gave West Point a 9-3 lead midway through the first. Ayden Ennis scored the next five points for the Warriors to make it a 14-3 game and Nolan Franklin scored in the final minute of the period to put West Point ahead 16-3 going into the second quarter.

Baskets by Franklin and Colton Thrower stretched the lead to 20-3 early in the second and after another score from Franklin, Harris drilled a three to make it a 25-3 game. Minck buried a three to add to the Warriors’ lead later in the period. The Broncos were able to chip away some of the lead at the free throw line, but Harris laid one in with just under a minute remaining in the half to keep West Point in front 32-8 at the break.

The Warriors continued to pull away in the second half, stretching their lead to 39-10 midway through the third quarter. Franklin knocked down a jumper to make it a 41-10 game later in the period and West Point outscored the Broncos 5-1 the rest of the way to take a 46-11 advantage into the fourth quarter.

With the clock running throughout the final frame, the Warriors cruised the rest of the way, eventually eliminating Holly Pond from tournament contention by a final score of 58-13 and advancing to the JV Boys semifinals.

Harris led the Warriors with 13 points in the win, followed by Franklin with 12. Lovell led the Broncos with three points in the loss.

West Point will return to Tom Drake Coliseum Friday night at 5 p.m. to play Good Hope with a spot in the JV Boys championship game on the line.
