CULLMAN, Ala. – East Elementary School transformed into a lovely Christmas wonderland in recent weeks, as teachers and staff took part in a hallway competition for best Christmas decorations. The winning hallway belongs to the fourth grade, which based its design on the C.S. Lewis classic “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.”

With students reading the fantasy classic this month, teachers, students and staff worked together to construct an ambitious hallway design that would take visitors on a journey from the first chapter all the way to the end of the book.

“It turned out great! I’ve been teaching through this book for around 20 years now, and this is the most we’ve ever decorated, being a joint effort with the entire fourth grade,” East Elementary School teacher Kristi Jackson explained. “Parents and grandparents donated items and helped to hang decorations. Students cut out handmade snowflakes and flowers, wrote acrostic poems describing the characters and made magic wardrobe flip books as a cumulative book activity.”
