SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – The Arabian Knights made the trip to Scottsboro for a critical regional matchup and after taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, the Wildcats responded with 28 unanswered points to pull away with a 28-14 win and hand Arab its first loss of the season.

Scottsboro drove the ball deep down into Arab territory on its opening possession, but a Wildcats fumble was scooped up by Wyatt Lamar and returned 91 yards the other way for a touchdown and an early, 7-0 lead for the Knights. Arab put together an impressive scoring drive later in the first quarter, capping things off with a Logan Silva touchdown run to make it a 14-0 game with just under three minutes to play in the first.

The Wildcats responded, driving back down into the red zone and eventually punching one into the end zone on fourth and goal to cut the Knights lead to 14-7 with 9:45 remaining in the first half. Arab’s offense pieced together another great drive to get into Scottsboro territory. The Knights worked their way all the way down to the 1-yard line, but a fumble cut the scoring opportunity short and gave the ball back to the Wildcats with five minutes on the clock. Scottsboro used almost every remaining second to cover 99 yards and finished a scoring drive with a 10-yard touchdown to tie the game at 14 with 19 seconds to play in the second quarter. Both teams went into the locker room at halftime knotted at 14.

The Knights received the kick to start the third quarter but turned the ball over on downs on their opening possession. Just five plays later, Scottsboro connected on a 34-yard touchdown pass to take a 21-14 lead midway through the third. Arab continued to move the ball well offensively and drove back down into scoring territory but another turnover on downs cut the drive short with just over a minute to play in the third.

The Wildcats took advantage of the stop, finishing another drive in the end zone to stretch their lead over the Knights to 28-14 with seven minutes remaining. Arab was unable to answer the Scottsboro score and the Wildcats sent the Knights home with their first loss of the season, 28-14.

Arab will be back on the road next week for a matchup at Fort Payne.
