CULLMAN, Ala. – This year’s Sweet Tater Festival at Smith Lake Park had the biggest turnout in the event’s history, according to Cullman County Parks and Recreation Director Doug Davenport.

“Weather has been a huge factor this year,” he said. “The warm temperatures were certainly more favorable than the rain we experienced last year, which had led to a decrease in attendance. But this time around, the weather played in our favor, resulting in a substantial crowd.”

Davenport reported that the festival, which took place Sunday and Monday, Sept. 3-4, featured a record-breaking 130 vendors, offering a variety of goods, crafts and food options for attendees to enjoy. Moreover, the entertainment lineup catered to a diverse audience.

“The clogger performances, with their energetic and engaging routines, were a standout attraction yesterday,” Davenport noted, referring to the Clog Wild Cloggers. “The interaction with the crowd was truly remarkable, and it’s evident that people enjoyed being a part of the experience.”

The car show also captured the attention of visitors. Vintage and modern vehicles lined up on display, drawing car enthusiasts and families alike. Davenport estimated there were around 200 automobiles.

The festival also included the popular golf cart parade that showcased creative and artistic designs, adding an element of fun and community spirit to the event, and live entertainment kept the atmosphere lively.
