GOOD HOPE, Ala. — Good Hope junior cheerleader Decia McClure has enjoyed her experience on the varsity cheer team so far and has learned so much during that time. She has enjoyed cheering with some great teammates and has learned a lot from her coaches as well.
“It’s been amazing. I love how throughout the years, I’ve made a family with the whole team. I also love how much it’s brought me out of my shell. I’ve learned how to come out of my shell, become a role model, step up in leadership, and how to get through tough situations,” McClure said. “It means a lot to be a role model for the younger girls that are looking up to me. I love getting to watch them grow as cheerleaders and people. The coaches are amazing. They have taught me how to step up my leadership, communicate more, control my emotions, get out of bad situations, and problem solving.”
Decia has seen so much improvement in her performance so far and continued to put in the work in the offseason as she is preparing for this upcoming season. She talked about the goals for this season and what will make this cheer squad special to watch.
“I’ve seen a whole lot of improvement, from sharp motions to better communication. I will continue to work on my leadership skills and my stunting skills,” she said. “My individual goal is to be better than I was last year. Our team goals are to win county, and most definitely, win state this year. What will make us special to watch this season is our bond that we all share and how we can come together and make things happen.”
She talked about her role models growing up and the best advice that someone ever gave her.
“My role models in cheer would probably be anyone who strives to push themselves to do their best,” she said. “The best advice that someone has ever given me is that you won’t get better if you don’t take the risk of getting better.”
