Marys vs. Mimosas brunch showdown raises funds for Les Dames
CRANE HILL, Ala. – Brunch enthusiasts lined up in the late-morning sun to try bespoke cocktail combinations for a legendary “Marys vs. Mimosas” showdown at Trident Marina on Saturday, June 24, 2023. The inaugural United We Brunch fundraiser was hosted by Les Dames of Cullman.
Cocktail connoisseurs donned bright summer frocks and jumpsuits to sample fun and diverse combinations of mimosas and bloody Marys. Voting took place via golden tokens for the favorites; with $500 winnings on the line for best mimosa and Mary, the pressure was on.
Some teams put forth creative combinations in the drinks themselves; fresh and herbaceous combos like thyme and peach followed by crisp and sweet salted caramel and apple, while others focused on upping the ante with toppings like fresh strawberries, whipped cream and even Duchess donut holes.
Local businesses Lake League Real Estate took home the title of Best Bloody Mary for a savory and spicy flavor topped with smoked sausage and garnished with tiny Tabasco bottles, and CrossFit 256 earned the title of Best Mimosa with a tart and tangy raspberry lemon combo.
Said the ladies of the “Muscles and Mimosas” team of CrossFit 256, “We were honored to be a part of such a great event today hosted by Les Dames Cullman!”
The “No Crying in Brunch” team of Lake League Real Estate shared, “We’re so glad United We Brunch was such an amazing success this year, and while the competition was stiff, we’re already looking forward to defending our title next year!”
Both winning teams tore up their checks to donate their combined $1,000 winnings back to Les Dames to further its mission of increasing accessibility to feminine hygiene products for underprivileged youth.
