Mendoza plans to focus on nonprofit work moving forward

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.– WVTM 13 on Wednesday announced the departure of
meteorologist Harmony Mendoza. Mendoza has been covering weather in central Alabama
for 13 years but has decided to focus more on her work with nonprofit organizations in
Alabama. Her final day at WVTM 13 is May 24, 2023.

“Harmony has been keeping Central Alabama informed about the weather for more than a
decade here,” said WVTM 13 News Director Baylor Long. “Her passion for the weather has led
to life-saving coverage throughout the years. It’s also led to her involvement and love for
groups like the Black Warrior Riverkeeper project.”

Mendoza has been involved in forecasting numerous severe weather events in Alabama,
including the tornado outbreak of 2011 and several other major storms in central Alabama.
Mendoza is on the board for multiple nonprofit organizations, including the Black Warrior
Riverkeeper.
