WEST POINT, Ala. – After falling in a 12-11 nailbiter in the series opener at Russellville Tuesday, West Point returned home on a windy Thursday night to finish the area series. Unfortunately for the home crowd, the Warriors couldn’t get their bats going and couldn’t keep the Tigers’ bats in check and West Point dropped game two of the area series with Russellville 13-0.

A pair of doubles helped the Golden Tigers take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and the Warriors were able to load the bases in the bottom half of the inning, but a ground out stranded the runners and kept Russellville ahead 2-0. A pair of RBI singles extended the Tigers’ lead to 4-0 in the top of the second and they began to really pull away in the third.

A leadoff double and an RBI single made it a 5-0 game and after loading up the bases later in the inning, a grand slam over the left field fence stretched Russellville’s lead to 9-0 going into the fourth. The Tigers pushed one more run across the plate in the top half of the fourth to make it 10-0 and tacked on three more in the top of the fifth to wrap up a 13-0 win over the Warriors.

Brody Freeman led West Point with a pair of hits in the loss. Boston Freeman, Charlie Ashley and Andrew Putman each posted hits as well.

The Warriors will now turn their focus to defending their Cullman County Tournament Championship. West Point will face either Hanceville or Good Hope in the county tournament semifinals Monday at 2 p.m. at Cold Springs High School.
