MADISON, Ala. — The West Point Lady Warriors traveled to compete at this year’s Bob Jones Tournament on Saturday and collected a 13-8 win over DAR to get things started. They dropped their next game to Boyd Buchanan 7-0 but bounced back and took care of business against Brighton 8-4.

West Point 13 – DAR 8 (Game One)

West Point didn’t waste any time getting in the run column in their opening at-bats. Three singles by Macayla Wilkins, Macie Brown, and Bethany Minck loaded the bases with no outs for Brinlee Phillips, who promptly cleared the bases with a three-run double on just the second pitch as that gave the Lady Warriors a quick 3-0 lead. They didn’t stop there, though, as Katie Beth Yovino added an RBI groundout to make it 4-0. Bailey Brock hit a double and Lexi Kimbril added a single to put runners on the corners with one out, then Liberty Shadix drove in a run on an RBI groundout, Kortni Baker hit an RBI double, Brown added a two-run double, Minck hit an RBI double, and she later scored on a DAR error to give West Point a 10-0 lead.

The Lady Warriors added to their lead in the top of the second. Back-to-back two-out singles by Shadix and Baker had runners on first and second for Wilkins, who drove them both in on a two-run single to push their lead to 12-0. The Lady Patriots got in the run column in their half on a solo home run and an RBI single as that cut it to 12-2, but West Point put up a run in the top of the third on a Brock RBI single. DAR didn’t go down without a fight in their final at-bats as an RBI single, a hit by pitch with the bases loaded, a two-run double, and a pair of wild pitches saw them cut it to 13-8 with two outs. After a walk, Minck settled down and got a fly out to end the game as the Lady Warriors picked up a 13-8 win over the Lady Patriots.

Wilkins (two walks) was the only batter to reach base for the Lady Warriors.

West Point 8 – Brighton 4 (Game Three)

After a scoreless first inning, West Point would bat around in the top of the second. Phillips reached on an error to lead off the inning and would move to second on the same play. An RBI single by Shadix put the Lady Warriors in the run column first, then after a Yovino single, Kimbril lined an RBI double to left field to make it 2-0. One out later, Kara Jones hit a three-run home run over the right field fence to push their lead to 5-0.

Brighton played long-ball in the bottom of the third inning as they hit a three-run home run over the center field fence to cut it to 5-3. The Lady Warriors responded in the top of the fourth.
