GADSDEN, Ala. – The Cullman Bearcats hit the road for the first round of the 6A State Playoffs Friday night to take on Gadsden City and unfortunately for the black & gold faithful, the Titans scored early and often on their way to a 41-24 win over the ‘Cats.

A pair of field goals gave Gadsden City an early, 6-0 lead and a touchdown pass made it a 13-0 game with just over a minute remaining in the first quarter. Another touchdown stretched the Titans lead to 20-0 in the second, but the Bearcats responded with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Skinner to Nate Zills that cut the lead to 20-7 with just under five minutes to play in the first half. Zills later knocked a 47-yard field goal through the uprights to make it a 20-10 game with a little over a minute left in the second quarter, but the Titans were able to score quickly before the break and went into the locker room leading Cullman 27-10 at halftime.

Another touchdown put Gadsden City in front 34-10 midway through the third quarter but another touchdown pass by Skinner held the lead to 34-17 early in the fourth. The Titans found the end zone one more time to move in front 41-17 with around eight minutes to play but the final points of the night came on Skinner’s third touchdown pass, this time to Nick Holland, that brough the final score to 41-24.

Cullman finishes the season 7-4 with the loss and the Bearcats will be hungry to get back to the postseason in 2023.
