PREP FOOTBALL: Vinemont hammers Danville at home 48-14

VINEMONT, Ala. – Vinemont hosted the Danville Hawks in a huge region matchup that had huge real playoff implications Friday and the Eagles played a complete game, coming out on top 48-14. The Eagles got the ball to start the game and Kyler Pugh started off the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run with 8:29 remaining in the first to put the Eagles ahead 7-0.

Midway through the second quarter Diego Rodriguez found the endzone from 12 yards out to extend the Eagles lead to 14-0. Danville Hawks quickly answered on the first play when a tipped pass fell in the arms of the receiver to cut the led to 14-7. Late in the first half Rodriguez found the endzone from 2 yards out to put the Eagles ahead 21-7.

Isaac Moody intercepted the ball on Danville’s first possession of the second half, with 5:19 remaining in the third quarter Vinemont stretched out their lead to 28-7 when Rush Sandlin found Toby Hill for a 21-yard touchdown. On the ensuing possession Vinemont’s defense forced a three and out, Max Foell blocked the punt and recovered the ball in the endzone to put the Eagles up 35-7.

After forcing another punt Vinemont added to their led, 42-7, early in the fourth quarter when Kyler Pugh scored on a 6-yard run. Vinemont’s Logan Ford intercepted the ball on the first play of the ensuing possession returning the ball to the 1-yard line, after a couple of negative plays Austin Marsh found the endzone from 4 yards out to put the Eagles ahead 48-7 with 8:28 remaining in the game. Danville managed to find the endzone with just 44 seconds remaining in the game giving the Eagles a 48-14 victory.

Vinemont improves to 3-5 with the win and the Eagles will be back home next week for another regional battle against Asbury.
