HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Hanceville’s Kids’ Night Out will return to C.W. Day Park this Thursday, Sept. 15, from 6-9 p.m., giving children the opportunity to meet their community’s first responders. The yearly event provides games, rides and food and drinks for Hanceville’s students, friends and families.

The special night is a Hanceville staple that allows area children to meet and socialize with the community’s police officers, firefighters and first responders to develop familiarity and friendships. Fireworks are scheduled to begin when the sun goes down.

The event was started almost 20 years ago by former Hanceville Police Chief Ed Potter to provide law enforcement and first responders a day to foster goodwill with the area’s young people, to provide a name with the face for children to reach out to in times of need.

The funds raised during Kids’ Night Out are donated each year to Hanceville schools. It is reported that $6,000 has been given to Hanceville Elementary School this year for security upgrades.
