GOOD HOPE, Ala. – After eliminating Hanceville in the opening round Monday night, the Good Hope Lady Raiders were back on their home court at D.E. Ryan Gymnasium Thursday night to face Oneonta in this year’s 4A, Area 11 Championship. Thanks in large part to 13 three-pointers and 24 points from Bailey Tetro, the Lady Raiders were able to comfortably put away the Lady Redskins 67-37 to improve to 28-4 on the season and secure hosting rights for the sub regional round next week. Good Hope Head Coach Justin Aby likes the way his team is shooting the ball and playing together on the offensive end right now but wanted to make sure and point out how some of his perimeter defenders have playing throughout the season.

“First of all, hats off to Oneonta. They’re a great team and they’re well coached. As far as us, we did exactly what we needed to do. We shot the ball well and we shared it well. We were more worried about setting each other up than girls getting their own individual points, so it was a complete team effort,” Aby said. “Defensively, I know you don’t see her name a lot in the score book as far as points, but Kyndall Seal is one of the best defenders around here and on our team and in this area. She does a heck of a job, and she takes it personal. When other girls show up, she just wants to lock down the other team’s best player.”

Good Hope got points on the board early thanks to three-pointers from Bailey Tetro and Rudi Derrick. Derrick then took a pair of turnovers the other way for an easy pair of layups to put the Lady Raiders in front 10-0 and Bailey Tetro drilled another jumper to make it 12-0 midway through the first. However, Oneonta responded with a 9-0 run that cut the lead to three with three minutes remaining in the opening period but baskets from Derrick and Heather Tetro along with another trey by Bailey Tetro gave Good Hope a 19-11 advantage going into the second.

The Lady Raiders really began to heat up from long range in the second quarter, starting with three-pointers from Bailey Tetro and Ivey Maddox that stretched the lead to 25-14. Desire’ Odachowski drained a three of her own to add to the lead and Heather Tetro and Maddox each knocked down another three-pointer in the final minute of the half to put Good Hope in front 37-20 at the break.

The shooting display continued in the third quarter. Bailey and Heather Tetro each drilled threes to start the second half and add to the lead. Derrick laid one in to make it a 47-23 game before Maddox buried another triple to extend the lead to 50-23. Bailey Tetro’s fifth three-pointer of the night gave the Lady Raiders a 31-point lead midway through the period and as she continued to add to her point total later in the third, Good Hope went into the fourth leading the Lady Redskins 62-32.

Charly Johnson scored inside to make it a 64-34 game with just under five minutes to play and Heather Tetro drained a three with around two minutes on the clock to keep the Lady Raiders in front 67-37. Neither team got on the board again in the final two minutes and with the clock running, Good Hope held on to win it 67-37 and capture its second straight area championship.

The Lady Raiders were led by Bailey Tetro who posted a game-high 24 points in the win. Derrick added 14 and Maddox and Heather Tetro each finished with 11. Good Hope will be back home Monday night to host Haleyville in the sub regionals.
