CULLMAN, Ala. – During the early morning hours of Saturday, Sept. 18, four Cullman residents on a golf cart were pulled over by a Cullman County Sheriff’s deputy travelling down CR 1435, though they were originally spotted traveling down Eva Road in Cullman.

The CCSO deputy stopped Phillip Gay, 49, of Cullman, for driving a non-street legal vehicle on a main road. He was arrested for driving under the influence.

The three passengers: Brent Adam Bowen, 40, Cassie Leigh Bowen, 38 and Emily Che Flores, 45, all of Cullman, were arrested for public intoxication.

Due to Mr. Gay’s role as the Cullman Area Technology Academy (CATA) assistant director, the Tribune contacted Cullman County Schools for a comment.

“I can confirm that Mr. Gay is on administrative leave right now,” Cullman County Schools Media and Communications specialist Ty Watwood said. “Dr. Barnette has no further comment as the incident is under investigation.”

The Tribune also contacted Cullman City Schools Media Specialist Trent Moore. They declined to comment in regard to the arrest of Cassie Bowen, who is a teacher at Cullman Middle School.
