PREP VOLLEYBALL: Addison sweeps Cold Springs in area match

BREMEN, Ala. – The defending state champion Addison Lady Bulldogs traveled to Bremen to take on Cold Springs in an area matchup Monday afternoon and the Lady Bulldogs dominated from start to finish in all three sets as they rolled to a 3-0 sweep of the Lady Eagles.

Six different players found the scoring column for Addison early on as they jumped out to an 11-1 lead and were never challenged at all after that as they rolled to a dominating 25-2 win in the opening set. Addisyn Smothers had a huge game for the Lady Bulldogs as she finished with five aces, two kills and a point. Anna Grace Luker added a pair of aces. Gracie Manley, Bracie Rodgers and Dacey Baker each finished with a pair of kills, while Katie Barrett ended up with a point and a block point. Ella Stephenson got the only points of the first set for Cold Springs.

Kills from Baker, Manley and Luker helped Addison jump out to a quick 8-1 lead in the second set. Cold Springs tried their best to chip away at the Lady Bulldog lead, but Addison proved to be too much for them once again as they took the next set 25-7. Manley finished with an ace and three kills for the Lady Bulldogs. Smothers added a pair of aces and a kill. Molly Gilbreath and Hadley Butler (dig) each ended up with an ace. Abby Waldrep added a kill, while Luker and Baker each finished with a kill and an ace. For Cold Springs, Malaya Taylor finished with a kill.

Behind four aces and a point from Barrett, Addison grabbed an early 8-1 lead in the third set. The Lady Eagles tried to go on a run, but once again, the Lady Bulldogs dominated from start to finish as they rolled to a 25-5 win to complete the sweep of Cold Springs. Barrett finished with four aces and a pair of points for Addison. Smothers added a trio of kills, an ace and a point. Manley ended up with an ace and a kill. Rodgers added an ace, while Lydia Ergle, Olivia Gober, and Gilbreath each finished with a kill.

The Lady Bulldogs will host Hatton Thursday and Cold Springs will travel to Good Hope on Wednesday.
