PREP FOOTBALL: Vinemont collects 30-28 region win at Carbon Hill

CARBON HILL, Ala. — The Vinemont Eagles traveled to Walker County to take on the Carbon Hill in a region matchup and defeated the Bulldogs 30-28 to pick up their first victory of the season. The Eagles got the ball to start the game and had no problems marching right down the field to take an early led when Colby Miller scampered for a 34-yard touchdown putting the Eagles up 6-0 with 10:42 remaining in the opening quarter. The Bulldogs answered right back with a long touchdown run of their own to tie the game at 6 with 8:34 remaining in the first quarter.

Vinemont fumbled the ball away on their first play of the second drive to give the Bulldogs the ball right back, they capitalized with a long touchdown drive to put the Bulldogs ahead 14-6 with just seconds remaining in the opening quarter. Vinemont answered back with early in the second quarter when Toby Hill powered in from 2 yards out to tie the game at 14. The Bulldogs took the lead back thanks to a long touchdown pass that made it a 22-14 game midway through the second quarter.

After exchanging punts, a 9-yard touchdown run by Kayden Henderson tied the game at 22 with 1:12 remaining until halftime. Carbon Hill got the ball back, looking to get the lead before halftime, and they were getting close until Dawson Wilhite intercepted the ball to keep the Bulldogs out of the endzone and keep the game tied.

The Eagles would force the Bulldogs to punt on their opening possession of the second half, after a 4-yard run by Miller the Eagles reclaimed the led 30-22 with 4:49 remaining in the third quarter. It wasn’t until 5:20 remaining in the game until the Bulldogs found the endzone, needing a 2-point conversion to tie the game after the touchdown they lined up to go for 2, Austin Boudreaux intercepted the pass to maintain a 30-28 led for the Eagles.

After the Eagles were stopped on fourth down the Bulldogs had a chance for a game winning drive but a fumble that was recovered by the Eagles put the final touches on a 30-28 victory.

Vinemont improves to 1-3 on the season with the win and will be back home to take on Tarrant next week.
