BAILEYTON, Ala.- The first Baileyton Family Fun Day took place this past Saturday in the town’s park. Town officials are calling the event a huge success and hope to plan more community events in the near future.
Mayor Windell Calloway said, “We had a park full! We had about 60 vendors sign up and most of them showed up.” There had been concerns throughout the week that the pattern of rain could cause problems, but the decision was made to go ahead and proceed with the event.
Calloway and the Baileyton Town Council were thrilled to see so many families enjoying Baileyton Park. The kids were treated to games, inflatables, live music and a petting zoo. They also had the opportunity to get up close with a variety of emergency vehicles as well as Sheriff Matt Gentry and even part of the Cullman County SWAT team.
Lifesouth’s Bloodmobile and Cullman Regional Medical Center also participated in the event. A donor goal was set at 10 for blood donations, and the community crushed that goal with 22 donors. Calloway said, “They said that Baileyton might have saved 22 lives today.”
As for future Family Fun Day events, Calloway hopes to sit down with the council and discuss having another event before the summer is over.
