CULLMAN, Ala. – Renovations on gym floors at Cold Springs, Holly Pond, West Point and Hanceville Elementary Schools began in May and work at each of the schools is either done or nearing completion.

Cullman County Schools communications and medical specialist Ty Watwood said that talks started earlier this year about putting in some new floors in the gyms and they’re happy to see the updates being made.

“The elementary gym floors were at least 25 years old,” Watwood said. “We all started talking about putting in new floors earlier this year. They will be more durable, and they will have synthetic rubber that’s poured on the floors.”

Watwood said that the floors will be a lot more durable than the older, tiled ones and gave an update on which floors have already been finished and when the remaining ones will be done.

“Instead of the plastic tiles that were on the floors, it will now be a solid, synthetic surface,” Watwood said. “The school colors will be on the new floors as well. It’ll be a lot easier to bounce a basketball on them. The floors at Cold Springs and West Point are done and Hanceville’s and Holly Pond’s floors will be done in a matter of days.”

By the time local students return to the classrooms in August, many of them will have a brand-new floor to play on during the school day.
