CULLMAN, Ala. – After falling behind early, the Cullman Lady Bearcats were able to do what they’ve already done several times this season and rally to come from behind and defeat Muscle Shoals Thursday night. Trailing 6-5 going into the bottom of the seventh, Sarah Herfurth laced a game-tying RBI double to make it 6-6 and later in the inning, Haley Shannon laid down a bunt in front of the plate and allowed Herfurth to score from third base and give the Lady Bearcats a dramatic, 7-6 win over the Lady Trojans.
After a scoreless first inning, Muscle Shoals scored the game’s first run on an error to take a 1-0 lead. The Lady Trojans were able to put some hits together in the top of the third and extend their lead to 4-0 going into the bottom of the third. That’s when Cullman began to chip away at the lead. Carlie Burnham drew a walk with the bases loaded to get the ‘Cats on the board and make it 4-1 and an RBI single from Faith Guest drove in another run to cut the lead to 4-2 going into the fourth.
A solo homerun added another run to the Muscle Shoals lead in the top of the fourth and another solo shot in the top of the fifth made it a 6-2 game. Chalea Clemmons responded with a solo bomb of her own in the bottom half of the fifth to trim the lead to 6-3 and she blasted her second homerun of the day in the bottom of the sixth to drive in two more runs and cut the lead to one going into the final frame. That’s when Herfurth’s double and Shannon’s bunt came into play and lifted the Lady Bearcats to a 7-6 win over Muscle Shoals.
Clemmons finished the game with two homeruns, a double and three RBIs. Guest posted three hits for Cullman in the win and Shannon (one RBI) and Emma Claire Wilson each added a pair of hits as well. The Lady Bearcats improve to 17-8 on the season with the win.
