PREP BASEBALL: Fairview takes Wednesday doubleheader over Brewer

FAIRVIEW, Ala. – After defeating Brewer on the road Monday night, the Aggies returned home with a chance to take the area series over the Patriots. Fairview needed to win one of two games Wednesday afternoon and decided to go ahead and secure the series with a 13-6 in game one. The Aggies completed the sweep with a 17-10, comeback win over Brewer in game two.

Fairview 13 – Brewer 6 (game one)

The Aggies moved in front early when an RBI single from Bryceson Turner and passed ball gave them a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and they continued adding to their lead in the second. Eli Frost scored on an error to make it a 3-0 game and Turner drew a walk with the bases loaded to stretch the lead to 4-0. Preston Ryan laced a 2-run single into center field to make it 6-0 and Crimson Wright drove a 2-RBI double into deep left field to give Fairview an 8-0 advantage going into the third inning.

An RBI single from Levi Garner gave the Aggies a 9-0 lead in the third and Turner drove in Brody Hogeland with a sacrifice fly to make it 10-0 going into the fourth. A pair of homeruns and an RBI double allowed the Patriots to put three runs on the board in the top of the fourth and they were able to plate one more run in the fifth to trim the lead to 10-4.

Brewer tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth to make it a 10-6 game and apply pressure to Fairview, but the Aggies responded in their half of the inning. A 2-run double off the bat of Parker Martin stretched the lead back out to 12-6 and in the next at bat, Hogeland drove an RBI single into left field to give Fairview a 13-6 cushion going into the final frame. The Aggies collected the final three outs in the top of the seventh and held on to win it 13-6. Fairview secured the series victory over the Patriots with its first win Wednesday and its win at Brewer Monday night.

Turner (one hit) posted three RBIs in the win. Ryan (one hit), Wright (one hit) and Martin (one hit) each drove in a pair of runs for the Aggies and Hogeland (one RBI) and Frost added two hits as well.

Fairview 17 – Brewer 10 (game two)

The Aggies struck early in their second game of the day against Brewer as well, putting up four runs in the bottom of the first. A sacrifice fly form Dalton Payne made it 1-0 and Preston Ryan scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0. Daniel Hostetler doubled into left field to drive in another run and a sacrifice fly from Brady Johnson gave Fairview a 4-0 lead going into the second inning.

After a scoreless second inning, the Patriots plated four runs of their own in the top of the third to tie the game and exploded for five more runs in the fourth to take a 9-4 lead. However, the Aggies responded immediately in the bottom of the inning. An RBI double from Parker Martin to make it a 9-5 game and Dalton Payne drove a 2-run double into right field to cut the lead to 9-7. An RBI triple off the bat of Hostetler trimmed the lead to 9-8 and just a few pitches later, an RBI single by Brody Hogeland tied things back up at 9 going into the fifth.

An RBI double put the Patriots back in front 10-9 in the top of the fifth but after a scoreless sixth inning, Fairview’s bats got hot again. Payne ripped an RBI double into right field to drive in another run and tie the score at 10 and Hostetler crossed the plate on a passed ball to give the Aggies an 11-10 lead. After Hogeland reached base with a single, Bryceson Turner singled into left field to bring two more runs home and make it a 13-10 game. Ryan drove in in two more runs with a single into left field to extend the lead to five and Crimson Wright laced a 2-run double into left to give Fairview a 17-10 advantage going into the seventh.

The Aggies collected the final three outs in the next frame and wrapped up a series sweep over the Patriots.

Payne (two hits) drove in four RBIs for Fairview. Ryan (two RBIs), Hostetler (two RBIs) and Hogeland (one RBI) each finished with a pair of hits in the win. Wright (one hit) and Turner (one hit) each added a pair of RBIs in the win. The Aggies will travel for a pair of varsity matchups against T.R. Miller and J.U. Blacksher Saturday.
