CULLMAN, Ala. – One person was killed and two injured in a two-vehicle crash at Alabama Highway 157 and U.S. Highway 278 midday Saturday. The crash happened shortly before noon.

Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick identified the victim as Rebecca Young Erby, 74, of Holly Pond.

Cullman Police Traffic Homicide Investigator Sgt. Joey Duncan said the driver of a 2011 GMC Sierra, northbound on County Road 719 (which turns into Hwy. 157 once it crosses Hwy. 278) failed to yield the right of way to the driver of a 1997 Buick LeSabre traveling westbound on Hwy. 278.

“The vehicles collided in the intersection,” said Duncan.

Erby, the driver of the Buick, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the Buick was transported to Cullman Regional by ambulance.

The driver of the GMC, identified as Tyler Jacob Guthery, 24, was also transported to Cullman Regional by ambulance.

“No further details about the crash are available,” said Duncan. “It is under investigation.”

Cullman Fire Rescue, Cullman EMS and others also responded to the scene of the crash.
