ONEONTA, Ala. – Good Hope made quick work of Curry in the opening round of the 4A, Area 11 Tournament Monday night but had a tougher task ahead of them in the area championship game Thursday. The Lady Raiders traveled to Oneonta and allowed just 12 points in the entire second half to topple the Lady Redskins 40-29 and capture the area title.

Early on, though, both teams were struggling to score offensively. With 4:45 remaining in the opening period, Oneonta got on the scoreboard with a basket down low, but Good Hope’s Kyndall Seal hit a jumper to tie the game at two. Heather and Bailey Tetro helped the Lady Raiders take an 8-4 lead with less than a minute to go in the quarter, but the Lady Redskins got a basket to fall to make it a two-point game after one.

A three each by Bailey Tetro and Seal pushed the Good Hope lead to 14-6 with less than six minutes to go in the first half. Five in a row by Oneonta made it a three-point game. A basket down low by Rudi Derrick gave the Lady Raiders a 17-11 advantage before the Lady Redskins trimmed the Good Hope lead to 17-15 on a pair of free throws and the Lady Raiders went into the half up by two.

A layup gave Oneonta a 21-19 lead early in the third period, but Good Hope got the lead right back as Ivey Maddox and Bailey Tetro each hit back-to-back layups to give them a 23-21 lead. Maddox and Seal each hit consecutive treys to stretch the Lady Raider lead to 29-25 after three.

Maddox continued her hot second half as she scored seven in a row, including a huge steal and a layup, to help Good Hope push its lead into double-digits at 36-25 with 4:20 remaining in the contest. The Lady Raiders held Oneonta without a basket for over 3 1/2 minutes before the Lady Redskins got a shot to fall to make it a nine-point game with 3:27 remaining in the game. The Lady Redskins later trimmed it to seven with a little over a minute to go, but Heather Tetro and Maddox closed the door on an Oneonta comeback with four free throws as Good Hope clinched the Class 4A, Area 11 title with a 40-29 win over the Lady Redskins.

Maddox finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and five blocks for Good Hope (22-9). Seal and Bailey Tetro (four steals) each added eight points. The Lady Raiders will host the sub-regional game next Monday night at 6:30 p.m. against the loser of the Haleyville vs. Hamilton contest.
