CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Animal Shelter has love to spare right now, so Donna Ruttkay shares a bonus Cullman Tribune Pet of the Week:

Chevy is a Catahoula-terrier mix who’s a little over 1 year old, a big athletic fellow with beautiful brindle coloration. He’s an active-but-not-hyper, medium-energy pet who is quiet in his kennel, but active and vocal when he gets to play outside. He enjoys outdoor activities and eagerly takes on challenges like the shelter’s obstacle course.

Chevy is a helpful companion and wears a backpack as he carries water and gardening supplies for the staff and volunteers around the shelter. He’s working on his social skills and is proving to be a quick learner in all respects.

A versatile companion, Chevy has the makings of a good therapy, companion or hiking dog.

Chevy’s adoption fee is $100 which includes DHLPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccines, rabies vaccine, wormer, general exam at the vet, neutering, microchip, free 30-day health insurance policy issued by 24PetWatch (with valid email only) and a free bag of food from Cullman Pet Depot (you must pay sales tax).

Animal shelter staff and volunteers work with their dogs to make sure they are accustomed to being around people, walking on a leash and practicing good behavior. Several of the shelter’s canine friends have even been “hired” to work as therapy and special needs service dogs.

Please consider adopting, to give a rescued pet a chance at a happy and healthy life.

Contact the Cullman County Animal Shelter at 256-734-5448 or cullmancountyanimalshelter@gmail.com. Visit the shelter at 935 Convent Road NE.
