CULLMAN, Ala. – This year’s Cullman County Basketball Tournament is almost upon us and in a year full of uncertainty for high school athletics, everyone is excited and grateful for this annual event to continue. The Fairview Lady Aggies edged out West Point for the top seed in the girls’ bracket while the Eagles of Cold Springs put together a perfect, 6-0 record in county play this season to earn the top seed in the boys’ bracket.

All of this year’s varsity matchups will be held at Wallace State’s Tom Drake Coliseum but the junior varsity tournaments will take place mostly on school campuses. The junior varsity championship games will be at Tom Drake Coliseum Jan. 30. The competition will tip off Saturday, Jan. 30 with the opening round of the JV tournament at West Point High School and resume Monday night at Wallace State with the first round of the varsity girls’ games. The JV tournament will then continue Tuesday night at both Holly Pond and Fairview High Schools. Teams will know which venue they’re playing in after the first round is completed Saturday. The tournament will then remain at Tom Drake Coliseum throughout the rest of the week, culminating in championship Saturday, Jan. 30.

Seeding was a little more difficult in the JV division. A three-way tie between Cold Springs, Fairview and West Point for the second seed in the JV girls’ brackets forced multiple coin tosses at Wednesday’s coaches meeting. Good Hope earned the top seed and Fairview emerged from the tiebreaker with the second seed. Cold Springs landed at third and West Point at fourth with Holly Pond filling in the fifth and final seed.

A 6-0 record in the regular season gave Fairview the top seed in the JV boys’ bracket while Good Hope and West finished just behind them at second and third. Hanceville and Holly Pond filled in the fourth and fifth slots on the bracket with Vinemont and Cold Springs rounding things out at sixth and seventh.
