FAIRVIEW, Ala. – The Fairview Aggies hosted the Lions of Brindlee Mountain for an afternoon contest at Joe Shults Gymnasium and after a rocky third quarter, the Aggies rallied and thanks in large part to a huge fourth quarter from Owen Yarbrough, pulled away to win it 64-58 in the final frame.

The Lions built a 9-1 lead to start the game and put Fairview in an early hole, but the Aggies began to battle back and chip away at the lead. A three-pointer from Yarbrough made it an 11-5 game with just over two minutes to play in the opening period and a pair of Peyton Bailey free throws and a J.T. White basket pulled the Aggies to within two. Jack Brown knocked down a three to give Fairview a 14-12 lead in the final seconds of the first quarter, but the Lions were able to lay one in at the buzzer to tie things up at 14 going into the second.

White netted a mid-range jumper to give the Aggies a 16-14 lead at the start of the second quarter, but a 10-1 run put Brindlee Mountain back in front 24-17 midway through the period. Preston Ryan scored at the rim to cut the lead to five, but a 6-0 run made it a 30-19 game with just over two minutes to play in the half. Parker Martin scored inside to cut the lead to eight with a minute remaining in the second and after a Lions bucket on the other end, Bailey scored in the final seconds of the half to cut the Brindlee Mountain lead to 32-24 at the break.

Bailey drilled a three-pointer to start the second half and trim the lead to 32-27 but the Lions were able to pull extend their lead to 38-29 by the midway point of the third quarter. That’s when Fairview began to turn it on, starting with a three-pointer by Ryan and another basket from White that helped cut the lead to 42-36 with just over a minute to play in the third. Yarbrough knocked down another three to make it a 3-point game and Ryan scored in the final seconds of the period to make it a 1-point game going into the fourth at 42-41.

The Lions scored a pair of baskets early in the fourth but a pair of Yarbrough free throws and another basket by Ryan trimmed the lead to 48-46. Brown then knocked down another three-pointer and Martin laid one in to tie the game at 51 with five minutes remaining. That’s when Yarbrough began to take over, scoring the next eight points for Fairview and giving the Aggies a 59-53 lead with just over two minutes to play. A three-pointer from the Lions cut the lead to five late in the game but Bailey converted an and-one play at the free throw line to put the game out of reach for Brindlee Mountain and secure a 64-58, comeback win for Fairview.

Yarbrough led the Aggies with 21 points in the win, 11 of which came in the final frame. Ryan finished behind him with 12, Bailey posted 10, Brown scored eight, White added seven and Martin finished with six.

Fairview will be back in action next Tuesday when it travels to take on Decatur Heritage.
